FRICTIONAL FORCES ON THE MANDREL IN TUBE ROLLING,

Abstract

A method of experimentally determining the frictional forces in the region outside the main zone of deformation when rolling steel and other metal tubes in a continuous mill with a long mandrel is described. Examples of the use of this method in connection with the frictional forces on alloy steel and A1 tubes are presented, the mandrel being lubricated with either a graphite-oil mixture or pure castor oil.
