RESEARCH IN THE ASTROPHYSICAL SCIENCES.

Abstract

The report describes research under the contract in the following 7 areas: The study of the plasma state of matter from a statistical mechanical point of view, i.e., the general many-body problem, and problems involving collective behavior; Basic studies in plasma regime where plasma and quantum mechanical effects overlap; Investigation of phenomena associated with the quantum nature of plasmas in the solid state; The interplanetary plasma and geophysical problems associated with the interactions of the solar wind and the earth's magnetosphere; Interpretation of observed spectra and dynamical processes in the solar and stellar atmospheres; Study of the detailed nucleogenesis in a star including the effect of rotation and magnetic fields; and Analysis of the equilibrium and physical phenomena in the interstellar gas.
