THE INFLUENCE OF DRY FRICTION FORCES IN GYROSCOPE PRECESSION AXES ON THE MOTION OF THE SENSING ELEMENT OF A GYROCOMPASS,

Abstract

Investigation of the effect of the moment of the dry friction forces in the bearings of gyroscope casings on the motion of the sensing element of a double-rotor gyrocompass. The equations for the deviations of the azimuth and the angle of elevation of the north end of the gyrosphere above the horizon level, arising from dry friction in the precession axes of the gyroscopes, are presented. It is shown that at high latitudes, where the value of the directional moment of a gyrocompass decreases appreciably, dry friction can essentially diminish the accuracy of the device. (Author)
