DIFFRACTION AND COHERENCE PHENOMENA IN OPTICAL WAVEGUIDES.

Abstract

The research effort has been a continuation of a theoretical and experimental investigation into problems of diffraction and coherence phenomena in dielectric waveguides. In order to yield a deeper understanding into a number of basic phenomena pertaining to radiation, coherence, and coupling effects in active as well as passive fibers, investigations have been carried through several stages, ranging from studies of small diameter diffraction apertures to waveguide mode propagation in isolated fibers, coupling effects in arrays of fibers, and radiation characteristics of such fibers separately in the active or the passive mode.
