A METHOD OF OBTAINING METAL BORIDES,
Abstract
The invention involves a method of obtaining metal borides, based on the reaction of the metal oxide with carbon black and boric anhydride at a temperature of 1700-2000C with subsequent purification of the derived metal boride. For lower cost and a higher degree of purity in the final product, the boric anhydride is obtained before the reaction from boric acid, as the basic raw material, by roasting it with carbon black at 750-800C, yielding a cake of boric anhydride with carbon (B2O3 plus C). The resultant metal boride is purified by roasting in a vacuum at a temperature of from 1500 to 2000C. The reaction is effected in a hydrogen atmosphere. (Author)
