HEART RATE RESPONSE TO THE FLACK TEST AS AN INDICATOR OF CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITION.

Abstract

A computational algorithm for classifying the heart rate response to the increased intrapulmonic pressure of the Valsalva maneuver or Flack test was written for implementation on the Philco 2000 computer. The variation of the response to changes in cardiovascular condition caused by bed rest was studied for eight subjects who had taken part in an experiment consisting of conditioning, bed rest, and reconditioning at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in 1966. Some of the parameters used to classify the heart rate response increased significantly during bed rest. No attempt was made to quantify levels of condition with heart rate response. (Author)
