PATTERN THRESHOLD RECOGNITION DEVICE.

Abstract

The report describes the development effort on a pattern threshold recognition device. This tube consists of an electrostatic image-converter input, a storage-target which can be switched above its first cross-over potential in areas of target-information, a flood-gun to suppress the background information, and a read-gun on the reverse side of the target to provide and electrical output of the stored target-information. The tasks pursued toward development of this tube are: (a) An electrostatically focused and deflected read-gun with a collimating system was developed and tested. (b) Thin-film storage-targets have been fabricated successfully on a metal-mesh support. (c) A simulated target suitable for use in a direct-view storage tube was evaluated. It demonstrated the capability of switching the potential of heavily written areas above first cross-over while suppressing the lightly written areas. (d) A tube for target evaluation was designed and is being fabricated. (e) The design of the final tube configuration is complete, and fixtures are being made for fabrication and assembly of the tube parts. (Author)
