DETERMINATION OF DITERTIARYBUTYL DISULFIDE IN DIESEL FUEL USING THIN-LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY.

Abstract

Thin-layer chromatography is used for the determination of di-t-butyl disulfide in diesel fuel. The method is rapid, simple, and congruous for simultaneous analysis of multiple samples. Morever, the procedure is free of interference from natural and other synthetic sulfides. Separation is conducted on a thin layer of silica gel where unique use is made of the visualization reagent, silver nitrate, by incorporating it as an integral part of the chromatographic media. The procedure provides a basis for the rapid detection of t-butyl disulfide in reference fuel. Quantitative results are readily obtained by visual comparison of a chromatogram containing sample and calibration mixture. (Author)
