SOLIDIFICATION AND THERMO-MECHANICAL PROCESSING OF ALUMINUM INGOTS5

Abstract

Work is reported on five separate but related research activities on solidification and thermomechanical processing of aluminum ingots. Several of these are completed research activities; others are in progress. They deal with (1) solution treatment of cast Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (2) effect of solution treatment of mechanical properties and fracture behavior of Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (3) effect of thermo-mechanical processing on solution treatment of wrought Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (4) heat flow in unidirectional solidification, and (5) laboratory simulation of the 'negative cone of segregation'.
