INFLUENCE OF APPLIED STRESS AND DEFECT ATOMS ON THE ATOMIC VIBRATIONS IN SOLIDS AND LIQUIDS.

Abstract

A sodium single crystal sample was tested, adopted to the scattering chamber and a series of systematic exploratory measurements has been done with the aim to find favourable conditions for the subsequent pressure-induced phonon frequency shift measurements. An improved control system for the triple-axis spectrometer driven by paper tape has been completed and put in operation. A calculation on the surface vibrations in crystal using an improved force constant model and some unusual methods was done resulting in a values of Debye-Waller factors and of dispersion relations for surface modes in small crystals.
