INVESTIGATION OF DEFORMATIONS BY THE THERMOELECTRIC METHOD,

Abstract

Discussion of a thermoelectric method, developed under the assumption that the temperature of a body varies in proportion to the applied force, for studying elastic and elastoplastic strains in materials subjected to various types of loading. The method is applied to the determination of the temperature variations of a metallic rod under dynamic loading. The correctness of the basic assumption of the method is verified by tensile tests. It is shown that the magnitude of the temperature in the elastic region during tension depends both on the geometrical dimensions of the sample and on the strain rate. Using the method proposed, it is possible to determine the limit of proportionality of the temperature to the applied force.
