UNDERWATER VISIBILITY OF OBJECTS IN OPEN WATER BASINS (Podvodnaya Vidimost Obektov v Otkrytykh Vodoemax),

Abstract

Light equations of stationary regime of plane-parallel turbid medium are derived; they show the dependence of brilliance of light fog, which is supperimposed over the brilliance of object and background in water medium with a stationary distribution of brilliance, upon optical indices of the medium, the distance and direction of observation. With the aid of these equations, a formula defining the attenuation of contrasts in water medium is derived. The formula demonstrates that the attenuation of contrast occurs in accordance with the exponential law in which the index depends upon the direction of observation. (Author)
