OBSERVATION LIMITS OF LOW POWER SPACEBORNE SIDE-LOOKING RADAR FOR EARTH RESOURCES APPLICATIONS.

Abstract

Some observational capabilities of orbiting side-looking synthetic aperture radar systems are evaluated. Two mean radar power levels are assumed available, 250 W and 500 W, and observation from 500 km and 1000 km altitude respectively is considered. A ground resolution distance of about 50 m associated with an observed strip about 100 km wide seems feasible though radar wavelengths required tend to become long. (Author)
