A DIGITAL TACHOMETER/ACCELEROMETER.

Abstract

Analog methods for measuring rotational shaft velocity and acceleration are well developed, yet present many drawbacks in practical use. A device is proposed to digitally compute estimates of the instantaneous velocity and acceleration of a shaft. The method of attack used in arriving at a final design proceeds from development of signal generating equipment through velocity- and acceleration-processing circuitry. Computer simulation is used to optimize the electronic circuitry to achieve the best accuracy. (Author)
