APPLICATION OF GAS LASERS TO STUDIES OF FUNDAMENTAL MOLECULAR AND ATOMIC PROCESSES

Abstract

The report covers laser and quantum electronics research in several areas. A bi-stable optical element has been developed which can produce short pulses of variable length and intensity. A standing-wave saturation technique has been applied to the measurement of rotational relaxation linewidths in CO2. Molecular relaxation processes are being studied using coherent optical processes. An experimental and theoretical study of short pulse propagation in SF6 has been completed. Considerations are also given relating to propagation of zero-degree pulses. Plans are under way to study relaxation processes in the CO laser.
