THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS OF A DIPOLE IN A DISSIPATIVE HALF-SPACE: A NUMERICAL APPROACH.

Abstract

The theory for the numerical solution which evaluates the electromagnetic fields of a dipole in a dissipative half-space has been developed which is especially useful where asymptotic forms are not available or valid. In addition, to permit better use of the explicit forms of the asymptotic solutions, the restrictions implicit in the formulation of the approximations for the fields in the three subdivisions of horizontal range (near, intermediate, and asymptotic range) were analyzed. Practical tables were developed showing 'Valid Regions for Application of Banos' Asymptotic Formulas' for sea water, lake water, wet earth, and dry earth, over the useful frequency range. (Author)
