CALCULATIONS AND MEASUREMENTS ON THE STRESS BEHAVIOR IN ROTATING SHELLS.

Abstract

The stress analyses of rotating shells were aimed at developing a suitable method of calculation which takes into account, as closely as possible, the complicated wheel designs as found, for instance, in the centrifugal flow impeller. As in the theoretical treatment simplifications are required to be made, the theoretical calculations are confronted with experimental investigations. For the experimental investigations a test stand was developed by means of which, and applying a suitable measuring procedure, quasi-static measurements of high accuracy could be carried out on rotating models. The first section of the report contains detailed information on the facts and figures made available for calculation. The second section deals with the experimental work and the test results. On five wheel designs that were selected, the stress and strain distributions obtained by calculation and measurement were compared with each other. (Author)
