A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ULTRAFINE STRUCTURE OF F. TULARENSIS AND NOVICIDA,
Abstract
A comparative electron-microscopic study was made of ultra-delicate structure of F. tularensis and F. novicida. As established, these microorganisms had a similar structure of the cellular wall which possessed a smooth-contour external membrane; the structure and position of their nucleoid, as well as the method of cellular division, realized chiefly by budding, were also similar. At the same time there were significant differences in the delicate structure of these microorganisms from other Gram-negative bacteria, particularly from Brucella and Pasteurella, possessing tortuous contours with folds. The data obtained gave additional grounds for referring these microbes to an individual Francisella genus. (Author)
