ON DISSIPATION OF ENERGY IN A CYCLICALLY DEFORMED MATERIAL IN THE PRESENCE OF STATIC STRESSES (Pro Rozsiyannya Energii v Materiali Shcho Tsiklichno Deformuetsya pri Nayavnosti v Nomu Statichnikh Napruzhen),

Abstract

Experimental studies show that the dissipation of energy in certain metals tends to be reduced by superimposed static stress and increased by preliminary plastic strain. Bauschinger's effect in the microvolumes of the material is proposed as the cause, and this is substantiated by consideration of the fatigue strength of metals under asymmetrical cycling. (Author)
