CYLINDRICAL CORNER PAD EVALUATION,

Abstract

The cushioning properties of cylindrical corner pads cut from a pre-foamedcylinder, six inches in diameter, of polyethylene foam were investigated. The performance characteristics of the cylindrical corner pads werecompared with conventional rectangular pads. The free-fall drop testswere performed. Cylindrical corner pads split under a test load ofapproximately 40 pounds. Definite signs of weakness were revealed at theseams. The cylindrical corner pads were considered inferior to theconventional rectangular corner pads and unsuitable for use with loadscomparable to the one used in this study. (Author, modified-PL)
