SUPERCONDUCTING Nb TM sub (010) MODE ELECTRON-BEAM WELDED CAVITIES,

Abstract

A number of electron-beam welded TM sub (010) mode superconducting Nb cavities were fabricated and tested at 8.6 GHz and 1.25 degrees K. These cavities were electron beam (EB) welded to avoid the difficulties of machining cavities without joints and to determine the usefulness of EB welding as a fabrication technique. Measurements demonstrate that high fields and unloaded Q's (Q sub 0)'s can be obtained with these EB welded cavities. Not only has a useful fabrication technique been demonstrated, but significant increases in the fields and (Q sub 0)'s, compared with earlier measurements, have been observed. (Author)
