SHOCK ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Three separate reports are included. The first presents 9lumped-parameters Bernoulli-Euler beam models or finite elements which are derived based on mechanical impedance at the ends of the element. Possibility of developing higher frequency models using three parameters is emphasized. The second report presents the stiffness matrix for a visco-plastic beam segment based on a particular constitutive relationship. The significance of the terms in the relationship is demonstrated using a simple example. The third report includes comparison of experimental and theoretical moments and curvatures of a structure consisting of three parallel cantilever steel beams, which were tested in a drop table shock machine. Adequacy of a constitutive relationship for visco-plastic behavior is investigated by comparing predicted and measured moments, curvatures, and curvature rates. (Author)
