VISUAL DISTORTION: A POINT OF VIEW,

Abstract

The first part of the paper is an overview of the 'visual distortion' literature, with a discussion of its role in the study of perceptual development. The second part offers a framework in which to view the effects of visual distortion. In addition, a possible mechanism for the explanation of the disturbing effects which result, and the subsequent adaptation to them, is suggested. The description of the mechanism is molar, although speculations about anatomical locus and neuronal components are included. (Author)
