AN INTERINDUSTRY PROJECTION TO 1985 OF CONSUMER DEMAND AND STOCKS OF CONSUMER DURABLES.

Abstract

The paper is concerned with a projection of consumer demand from 1968 to 1985 by the 82 personal consumption expenditure (PCE) categories of the Department of Commerce. The projections were made by PCE category and then converted to input-output sector to achieve an interindustry projection of consumer demand. Using the projections, stocks of consumer durables were estimated by PCE category and input-output sector. Two sets of projections were run to test the validity of using inputed prices from an input-output system in the equations. Inputed input-output prices relative to 1958, coverted into prices by PCE sector, were used as well as prices relative to 1958 derived from the 1967 implicit PCE price deflators. (Author)
