THE INFRARED SPECTRA OF METHOXYAMINE AND METHOXYAMMONIUM ION.

Abstract

The infrared spectra of CH3ONH2, CH3OND2, CH3ONH3(+)Cl(-) and CH3OND3(+)Cl(-) were obtained in the region 4000 - 40)?CM5 WITH THE SAMPLES IN THE FORM OF THIN CRYSTALLINE FILMS AT LIQUID NITROGEN TEMPERATURE. With the exception of the CH3 and NH3(+) torsions all the fundamentals for methoxyamine and methoxyammonium ion have been observed and assigned. Davies and Spiers' assignments for CH3ONH2 have been revised in part and the NH2 twist and wag located. The assignments for CH3ONH3(+) ion are readily correlated with those for CH3ONH2 and for both species the assignments for the A' vibrations are consistent with the product rule. (Author)
