SOVIETS TO BUILD 'SEAS' IN DESERT REGIONS,

Abstract

The staff of the (Turkmen State Planning, Surveying, and Scientific Research Institute of Water Management Construction) has begun planning for the construction of one of Central Asia's largest artificial seas. The new reservoir, which will overflow into the upper section of the V. I. Lenin Karakum Canal, will hold more than three billion cubic meters of water from the Amudar'ya River. When completed, it will make possible the accurate control of the quantity of precious moisture fed into the Karakum Canal, along with the regulation of the runoff of the Amudar'ya. (Author)
