ULTRA HIGH VACUUM TEST SYSTEMS.

Abstract

To enable the testing of lubricating materials in a contaminant free environment, a group of ion pumped vacuum systems have been produced. The report describes the design, development, and testing of the various configurations. Features in the vacuum designs include straight sputter ion pumping, ion pumping enhanced with cryo and titanium sublimation pumping, and sorption roughing. The system is designed for use with various test devices such as ball bearing and lubricant pellet testers. (Author)
