LAMINAR FLOW FLUIDIC RESISTORS WITH RECTANGULAR CROSS-SECTIONS,

Abstract

An analytic expression for the variation of mass flow with differential pressure is derived for fluidic laminar flow resistors with rectangular cross-sections. The effects of fluid density, inertia, viscosity, and entrance losses are included in the derivation for an isothermal flow process. The analysis is experimentally verified over wide pressure differential ranges using etched metal laminate fluidic resistors operating pneumatically with various selected cross-sectional dimensions, outlet pressures, and operating fluid temperatures. Typical fluidic resistor linearity deviations are computed in terms of defined steady state percent error and incremental percent error using the derived resistor flow/pressure characteristic expression.
