HIGH QUALITY ABLATION EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. PHASE I.

Abstract

Ablation data are presented for POCO GRAPHITE, R6300 carbon/phenolic and 3D QUARTZ/PHENOLIC HEMISPHERE/CONE CONFIGURATIONS IN Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory Wave Superheater environments ranging from 70 to 120 atm. The models were also tested in an argon atmosphere to isolate thermomechanical mass loss effects. The report describes the objectives of the experiments, presents the data obtained, and program satisfied the original goals. (Author, modified-PL)
