HIGH SPEED MINIATURE ENTHALPY PROBE DEVELOPMENT.

Abstract

A study is reported in which very fast acting miniature enthalpy probe systems are evaluated. Probe operation is based on the total calorimetric principle whereby a heat balance on a gas sample is obtained in a very few milliseconds. Uncooled probe systems are investigated from the standpoint of applicability to the wall stabilized arc located at the Thermomechanics Laboratory of ARL. Enthalpy probe development is discussed and the resulting probe models are described in detail. Comparative evaluations using other enthalpy measuring techniques are reported as well as studies of single sweep enthalpy profile determinations. Probe operational limits are indicated through results of tests at enthalpies above 4500 Btu/lb. (Author)
