EFFECTS OF FILM READER ERRORS AND OF LENS DISTORTIONS ON TRAJECTORY DATA DERIVED FROM FIXED CAMERA OBSERVATIONS.

Abstract

An attempt is made to isolate errors caused by the film reader system and propagating into the target position derived from observations of fixed cameras which are arranged along a supersonic track. Errors of a size similar to the estimated error are identified for irregular shaped moving targets ejected from sleds if and only if observed by 2 cameras forming an acute angle between their lines of sight. Lens distortion effects are computed and evaluated for nine ribbon frame continuous motion cameras and for one 70mm, intermittent motion camera using L. N. Danner's and D. C. Brown's methods.
