FORWARD AND BACKWARD CONTINUATION FOR NEUTRAL FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS,

Abstract

The paper is concerned with the development of neutral functional differential equations. Specifically, a class equations are considered which in some respect are more general than the ones considered by Hale and Cruz. This class has the advantage of leading in a very natural manner to the problem of the backward existence of solutions. The basic theory of existence, uniqueness, continuous dependence and continuation of solutions is developed and it is then shown that solutions of most linear equations with bound coefficients cannot have a nonzero solution which approaches zero faster than exponential.
