A USER'S GUIDE TO THE OPERATION OF AN INFORMATION STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM ON THE B5500 COMPUTER.
Abstract
The manual describes an information storage and retrieval (IS and R) system implemented on the University of Washington's Burroughs B5500 computer. This IS and R capability can be applied to a class of file management problems, known as descriptor systems. The implementation of this capability is based on the large capacity storage organization scheme developed by Kidall. The manual is divided into four sections: introduction and terminology, system description, a formal language description of the user command language (including syntax, semantics, and examples), and operational characteristics. The manual is designed to be a reference tool for the user of the IS and R system.
