RESULTS WITH A DEEP RESEARCH VEHICLE TRANSPONDER NAVIGATION SYSTEM AT THE U. S. NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHIC OFFICE,

Abstract

An acoustic transponder navigation system has been fabricated by the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office for use on Deep Research Vehicles. The system can be used for guidance of a vehicle during a survey mission by monitoring an oscilloscope display or it can be used for track reconstruction following a reconnaissance mission by play-back of the magnetic tape record. Results from this navigation system on operations with CUBMARINE (PC3-B), ALVIN, and STAR III in both the survey and the reconnaissance modes are presented. (Author)
