THE OXIDATION MECHANISM OF ZIRCONIUM.

Abstract

The report summarizes research carried out on the following scope of work: Determination of the oxygen deficiency in ZrO(2-x) in equilibrium with oxygen-saturated Zr; Studies of the diffusion of oxygen in zirconia, and a test of the applicability of the results to theoretical models of the defect structure; Determination of the oxygen deficit at which the mole fractions of free electrons and anion vacancies are equal.
