THE ORBIT OF INJUN 3 ROCKET (1962 B-tau-6) FOR NOVEMBER 1966 TO JANUARY 1968.

Abstract

Sets of orbital parameters for Injun 3 rocket have been computed for 57 epochs from November 1966 to within 3 months of the end of the satellite's orbital life. The observations used were mainly visual and totalled 1300, of which 164 were rejected. The orbit determinations were performed using the Fortran program PROP on an ICL 1907 computer. The accuracy of the orbits varied considerably, but for the best the standard deviations were 0 degrees .002 in inclination and 100 m in perigee height. The results have been used in a determination of the rotational speed of the atmosphere, and for assessing variations in upper-atmosphere density. (Author)
