ON THE LOCAL DETERMINATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF LIGHT AT ANY DOWNBEAM RANGE.

Abstract

The expansion of the diffraction integral for a beam of light shows that the distribution of light at any point in the beam may be determined locally from that at the appropriate point in the converging cone of light from a lens or optical system. It is shown that this is an imaging process in which the downbeam point is treated as a virtual source. (Author)
