A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN CERAMIC AND COMPOSITE MATERIALS.

Abstract

Reports are presented on the following topics: Initial creep and recovery experiments on rutile and MgO; Chromium diffused into the surface of Al2O3; Water adsorption on Fiberglas E; Neutron activation analysis of NaCl, MgO, CaF2, and Al2O3; An arc transfer method has successfully produced single crystals of NiO and CoO; The electronic conductivity of Gd-doped BaTiO3 has been successfully compensated with additions of Cu; Coulombic titrations have been successfully made using an electrical potential to control the oxygen pressure in a solid electrolyte; A solid galvanic cell oxygen pressure gage has been designed and tested; A review of the conductivity domains of various solid electrolytes; A general theoretical treatment of the conditions necessary to produce a pure Rayleigh wave; High strength surface waves have been produced in an LiNbO3 crystal.
