LITERATURE SEARCH AND CRITICAL REVIEW OF MECHANICAL FAILURE TECHNOLOGY.

Abstract

A literature search was conducted and a critical bibliography prepared in the area of component failure technology. The objectives of the critical survey were: Identification of critical components and problems in specific mechanical equipment; definition of failure modes and processes in components; determine the status of design techniques in order to predict failure; and determine the status of diagnostic techniques for predicting failure. Abstracts of the literature were acquired and subjected to critical review by specialists in order to assess the overall trends and significant developments that could be related to the failure of mechanical components. Summaries of the findings were then written in chapter form along with the pertinent abstracts and references. (Author)
