HIGH ENERGY DENSITY, LONG LIFE, ZINC-SILVER OXIDE SECONDARY BATTERY BB-534()/U (ENGINEERING EVALUATION).

Abstract

The physical and electrical characteristics for a high energy density zinc-silver oxide battery and battery assembly are presented. The BB-534()/U consists of four (4) vented zinc-silver oxide BB-461()/U monobloc batteries housed in a lightweight, rugged, standard manpacked case. The storage life of this battery is extended by shipping in the dry unactivated state. Electrolyte is supplied in sealed plastic containers. Before use the battery is filled and charged. This battery has the capability of furnishing either 9.0 Ah at 24 volts, or 18.0 Ah at 12 volts and meets severe electrical, environmental and mechanical requirements. Further, this battery assembly provides the greatest available energy per unit weight and volume of any battery assembly in the standard family of alkaline batteries. (Author)
