A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF INFANTRY COMBAT.

Abstract

The report presents a Lanchester-based mathematical model of a samll unit infantry attack on a defender position. It proposes that a major factor in actual combat is the suppression of fire of one side by a heavy volume of accurate fire from its opponents and incorporates this phenomenon into the model. Following the development of the model, different offensive tactics are investigated to find the preferred method of attack under varying circumstances. (Author)
