THREE-DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURES/MEDIA INTERACTION DYNAX DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS. VOLUME 1.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a research project undertaken to develop a three-dimensional analysis technique for the response of strategic structures to airblast and ground shock from nuclear weapons. A computer program, DYNAX (DYNamic AXisymmetric) was developed for the harmonic analysis of rotationally symmetric structures and their surrounding media. The program employs finite element models made up of triangular and quadrilateral toroids and conical shell segments and a stable inverse numerical integration technique. Provision is made for transversely propagating airblast loads and ground shock motions of the types encountered in strategic structure problems. Results are presented for a series of sample problems which agree well with previously published solutions and demonstrate the applicability of the method. (Author)
