DEPOSITIONAL DIAGENETIC FEATURES IN SUBSURFACE BAHAMIAN ROCKS.
Abstract
This thesis deals with subsurface Bahamian limestones and dolomites that have relevance to the study of many aspects of diagenesis, lithification, and dolomitization. Part I deals with Bahamian subsurface limestones. Texture, composition, structure and fabric criteria, both in hand speciman and thin section, are used to reconstruct the original depositional environment and to assess degree of diagenesis. Differences in diagenetic state are reflected also in trace element content, mineralogy and stable isotope distribution. Part II deals with subsurface Bahamian dolomites. Again, petrographic and geochemical evidence is used to interpret depositional environment, but more important these data are analyzed for their bearing on the problems regarding the time and mode of genesis of the dolomites.
