THE ACTION OF DIMETHYL SULFIDE ON PENTABORANE(9). (1-PENTABORYL-BIS(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)PHOSPHINE)NICKEL TRICARBONYL.

Abstract

Two areas of research are discussed. The first reports gives a new insight into the action of bases on pentaborane(9) from its vapor-phase reaction with dimethyl sulfide at temperatures above 75C, to form diborane (Or a BH3 complex) and a resin containing (CH3)2S. The second report discussed the preparation of a compound formed quantitatively from the ligand 1-(CF3)2PB5H8 in excess liquid Ni(CO)4, at 25C. The pertinent stoichiometry (with mmole quantities) is represented as follows: 1(CF3)2PB5H8 + Ni(CO)4 yields CO + 1-(CF3)2PB5H8.Ni(CO)3. (Author)
