LARGE-SCALE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HORIZONTAL TURBULENT EXCHANGE IN THE OCEAN (O Krupnomasshtabnykh Kharakteristikakh Gorizontalnogo Turbulentnogo Obmena v Okeane),

Abstract

This paper is based on investigations of the turbulent Reynold's tension in large-scale averaging, which exceeded the range specified by ozmidov. For this purpose, two multidiurnal buoy stations in the northern part of the Sargasso Sea were selected. These data were based on continuous observations for 3 and 5 days in May 1963. The bottom depth in the area was about 3500m. These data were used to find latitudinal and longitudinal velocity current components at depths 200, 300, 500, 800 and 1000m. The smoothing was done by the Ozmidov method, but the scale of averaging was greater, namely: 24, 36 and 48 hours. (Author)
