ANALYSIS OF A PERFORATED CYLINDRICAL SHELL. PART I. DETERMINATION OF EFFECTIVE ELASTIC CONSTANTS,

Abstract

This report contains the results of the first phase of a three phase program. In this first phase the definitions for the effective orthotropic stiffness coefficients are formulated in terms of the geometric and elastic material properties for a right circular cylindrical shell penetrated by a large number of radial circular holes. The effective stiffness coefficients are developed in a manner quite similar to that used for determining the coefficients for a flat perforated plate. Phases two and three will contain the development of the shell differential equations with solutions and the study of stress distributions respectively. A fourth phase may be necessary in which the same complete process will be repeated for a large number of circular holes of a triangular pattern in the circular cylinder. (Author)
