SOME NOTIONS RE THE AEROSOL COMPONENT OF THE MARTIAN ATMOSPHERE, AND THE COLOR OF MARS AS RESULTING FROM THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF THE PLANET'S ATMOSPHERE (SUMMARY OF WORK),

Abstract

The presence of suspended particles in a gas has little effect on the mass and density, but greatly increases the scattering capacity of the medium. Therefore in the case of photometrically obtained values for mass, density and pressure of the Martian atmosphere at the surface of the planet it is necessary to separate the gas and aerosol components of the atmospheric brightness. Since no sufficiently reliable methods have been proposed for doing this, it is interesting to reverse the problem and, using the pressure values determined by other methods, to study photometrically the content of suspended particles.
