ELECTROMAGNETIC CONFINEMENT AND PENETRATION OF AN OVERDENSE PLASMA,

Abstract

For a simple model, it is possible to compute the self-consistent confinement and penetration of an energetic electron plasma by an RF field of large amplitude, when the quantity (v/c) ((omega sub p)/omega) is of order unity or greater, where v is a characteristic electron speed, omega sub p is the plasma frequency, and omega is the RF frequency. Previous theories concerning nonlinear behavior of electromagnetic waves in plasmas have required this quantity to be very small compared to unity. (Author)
