SPHERICAL ELASTIC-PLASTIC WAVES IN SOLID MEDIA,

Abstract

The propagation of loading and unloading elastic-plastic waves in an ideally elastic-plastic infinite medium, containing a spherical cavity, and obeying the Tresca yield condition is considered when a time dependent pressure pulse is applied on the cavity surface. The numerical method, based upon finite differences, treats the various wave fronts exactly. It is shown that the speeds of the unloading wave fronts are dependent upon the decay rate of the applied pressure. The results for cavity displacement are compared with those obtained from an existing method. (Author)
