THE ACTION OF MUTAGENS ON PHAGE MS2 AND ITS INFECTIVE RNA. II. COMPARISON OF THE KINETICS OF THE INACTIVATING AND THE MUTAGENIC ACTION OF NITROUS ACID AND ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION ON INFECTIVE RNA AND ON THE EXTRACELLULAR PHAGE,

Abstract

A study was made of the possibility of the induction of mutations with action of the mutagen directly upon the isolated infective phage RNA (since there are as yet no such data in the literature). A comparison was then made of the kinetics of the lethal and the mutagenic action of nitrous acid and UV radiation on the infective RNA and the whole phage under conditions of simultaneous and identical processing of both agents by the mutagen.
